Voting Day
Hapton School had a very exciting few days deciding who was going to represent the school for school council and for Pupil Parliament too. The School council at Hapton have very important jobs organising different fundraising events for the school, sorting out internal events and making important decisions about the school too. The Pupil Parliament meet regularly with other schools in the area to discuss local issues in the community and events to bring the community together.
All the children who wanted to be in the school council did a short speech to their own classes and then, as British Citizens do, the classes voted for who they wanted to represent them.
As a whole school, every child voted for who they wanted to be in the Pupil Parliament after listening to the children's speeches during assembly time. All children had a ballot paper which they put a cross in the box of the pupil they wanted to represent Hapton School for the parliament. We then took our ballot papers to the polling station and posted them secretly into a private box where they were then counted by Miss Robinson and Mrs Rainford. Teachers explained to the children about our British Values and the importance of living in a democracy.
In a whole school assembly we then gave all the children in the new school council and Pupil Parliament their badges to show off proudly that they are representing our school wherever they go.
